This week’s poem in the Catholic Poetry Room is by James Goldberg.

Waiting for the Messiah

And the air is warm
and dark. Tomorrow we’ll
taste the dust again
but for now the stars spill
out across the sky like milk
dripping honey. And who knows

if somewhere
a son is about to
be born. His eyes
dark. Time trembling
already, waiting to be
shattered by the sound
of his first
laugh.
