Lifting
Strong summer cobwebs
Hold their own in the afternoon wind.
A dove’s tail touches the lacy spider world,
And then her wings take her
Up to the fragrant top
Of the waving pine.
There is life beyond our imagining
Here in this high land of shadow and light—
This lofty place of seeds and insects,
Of feather-song and squirrels in hiding.
“We lift up our hearts,”
We have said a thousand times.
Queen of Heaven, Queen of Gossamer,
Of feathers and fronds,
Transform our words into sacred song.
