This week’s poem in the Catholic Poetry Room is by Cynthia Erlandson.

The Lamb

“And Abraham said, ‘My son, God will provide for himself the lamb for a sacrifice.’”
— Genesis 22:8

The Lamb has been provided. Here He is.
This time no substitute is in the thicket,
This time no sudden angel to hold back what
The Father’s arm will do – no voice that says
To stop before the deed is done – because
This Lamb will battle death by death, and break it.
Before all time, the plan had been decided.
He’s here right now. The Lamb has been provided.

From the collection, Foundations of the Cross and Other Bible Stories.
