“Let us run to Mary, and, as her little children, cast ourselves into her arms with a perfect confidence.”

Saint Francis de Sales

Dear Blessed Mother,

You may wonder why I am writing this letter to you.  As I reflected on you during Eucharistic adoration this week, I was reminded of how much more clearly I communicate when I write my jumbled thoughts on paper.  Consider this letter my meager attempt at letting you know what you mean to me and how much I need your help each day.

I remember how intimidated I was by the mere thought of you when I came into the Church so many years ago. Growing up as a young Protestant, I was taught very little of your role. I certainly never saw you back then as the Mother of God and Queen of Heaven. I didn’t know about you, so I feared you. Now, all these years later, I only feel a deep love for you.

When my earthly mother died, I didn’t recognize at the time how much I would miss her smile, wise counsel and burning passion for your son Jesus. I recall our chats each week when we discussed anything from her beloved grandsons to theology. I still miss her and those talks very much.

As a convert still somewhat new in the faith and dealing with the loss of my mother, I was not sure how to approach you.  But I desperately needed your help.  I needed to share my grief with you.  I needed comfort and I wanted you to help me come to grips with her passing.

As I fervently prayed my Rosary in those dark days, I came to understand in a profound way that you were my mother.  You had always been there for me as you are for all mankind. And I finally learned to trust in your special role in the Church and in my life.  I learned to turn to you when I was in need and ask for your intercession.  Praying for your intercession also brought me closer to your son Jesus.

Blessed Mother, I come to you now seeking your intercession for my family and the Church.  I seek your powerful prayers for Pope Francis and our Bishops and priests that they be holy men of God.  I ask that our government leaders gain wisdom and have their hearts converted by a powerful love for your son.  Also, I humbly seek your prayers for my own prayer life, which has been dry of late, that once again it will become the source of peace and strength it has been so often in my life as a Catholic.  I pray for all of those who don’t know the power of your intercession and for those lost and far away from Christ.

Thank you for your humility and the “yes” you gave to being the Mother of God.  I love you, my mother, and am ever thankful for your intercession.

In Christ,

One of your grateful children

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother;
to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.
