This week’s poem in the Catholic Poetry Room is by Gerard Garrigan, O.S.B.
Good Friday 1997
Blood red cardinal
on a scourged and broken asphalt road
beneath a dark and darkening sky
some time past noon, not quite three
in a moment he’ll fly
but first must die
