This week’s poem in the Catholic Poetry Room is by Jeremy Long.

Contrite Dew

Each dawn I awake to see
the grass has cried again.

This is what it’s like to be
away from your sun.

By midday your light has
dried all that’s been;
dew is the mourning of love.
So it must be these tears
that let us come near to you
without burning up.

Jeremy Long has published multiple collections of poetry and philosophical articles in academic journals. His education includes a Bachelor’s degree with a double major in Philosophy and English and a Master’s degree in Systematic Philosophy. He is currently pursuing an additional Master’s degree in Theology. He resides in Southeastern Connecticut with his wife Heather.
