A Daily Reflection on the Scripture Readings at Mass…

And he told them a parable, to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. (Luke 18:1)

Today’s gospel reading is the parable of the Widow and the Unjust Judge. Jesus uses this story of the importunate widow (Luke 18:1-8) who persistently petitioned the unjust judge. Her petition is finally granted by the judge simply because he wanted her to go away. Our God is infinitely good and loving. If the widow’s persistence paid off in the case of the unjust judge, think about how much more hope she has if she persists in her petitions God!

This is one of the lessons Jesus teaches on the essential qualities of prayer—we must pray urgently, faithfully, without ceasing, never losing hope.
