A Daily Reflection on the Scripture Readings at Mass…
And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” The Lord replied, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to [this] mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.” (Luke 17:5-6)
Each morning when I awake, I first thank God for seeing me safely through the night and granting me a new day. I ask Him for the grace to know and understand what He calls me to do in the ordinary moments of this day, and the courage to follow His will. Above all, I ask for an increase in Faith, Hope and Charity—for myself and my loved ones—in order that we may attain our end.
Asking the Lord for an increase in Faith is a good thing! A gift from God, this theological virtue makes me able to perform all that the Lord asks of me and to do so in a way that is pleasing to Him.
From the first moments of Faith, even when our faith is quite small, we are able to do far more than we might imagine. The faith that God as given to us is the very power of Almighty God to do great things. And we should never forget or neglect this gift!
