daily-reflection-featured-w740x493“Trust in the Lord and do good that you may dwell in the land and live secure. Find your delight in the Lord who will give you your heart’s desire. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will act And make your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like noonday. Be still before the Lord; wait for him. Do not be provoked by the prosperous, nor by malicious schemers.” (Psalm 36[37]:3-7)

The culture and time in which we live influences us to be impatient. We want everything and we want it now. Seemingly gone are the days when we waited patiently, even if in excited anticipation, for what we wanted—and often needed.

Does this resonate with you? It does for most of us. Wanting the newest technology—smart phones, tablets, Ultra High Def TVs, and so on. Did you ever think you would get to a time when demand for laptops and desktops would decline in favor of something better? Maybe it is the latest clothes, shoes, hair styles, automobiles, games, and hover boards!

We are affected, our children are affected… we cannot help but be tempted.

But, the truth is that all the stress and pressure that accompanies giving into these desires harm us, mentally and physically. And the uncontrolled envy and gluttony harm our spiritual life.

Here is another truth… there may not be anything wrong with these things we want, but there is something very wrong with our wanting them more than we want God and the blessings He intends for us.

Happiness and peace comes from our surrender to Our Lord Jesus Christ, trusting in His plan for our lives. Don’t be distracted or led astray by the latest and greatest fad and those who have surrendered to the created instead of the Creator.

Into the deep…
