[1]“O God, thou art my God, I seek thee, my soul thirsts for thee; my flesh faints for thee, as in a dry and weary land where no water is. So I have looked upon thee in the sanctuary, beholding thy power and glory. Because thy steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise thee. So I will bless thee as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on thy name. (Psalm 63:1-4).
Deep within each of us is a hunger and thirst that can be satisfied in God alone. Nothing else we seek can satisfy. A life spent seeking the created instead of the Creator results in suffering and disappointment.
God calls us to Himself. When we think of Him, it is because He is tapping us on the shoulder. Fasting and other forms of self-denial, as spiritual practices of materially subduing and controlling the physical appetites of the body, helps us, by God’s grace, to enable the soul to more perfectly and freely pray. We are better prepared to notice God calling to us. By detaching from the created, we will understand that our hunger and thirst are for God.
Turn to Him this day and satisfy that hunger and thirst in Him alone so that your life will be filled in peace, joy and authenticity.
