Daily Reflection — Come and See

John was standing with two of his disciples; and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where he was staying; and they stayed with him that day. (John 1:35-40)

It is truly amazing to reflect on the great love God has for each of us. He never ceases to call us to Him. Sometimes He uses others, such as St. John the Baptist, to direct us to His loving call. At other times, we are taught, He directly stirs within us the desire to seek Him.

All too often, we fail to hear this call from God. We all know that the busy happenings of our daily lives can distract us and drown out the voice of God in our lives. Today, it is as important for us to hear and answer God’s call as it was for those first disciples back in Galilee.

He speaks to us in many ways. Have you ever felt a desire to pray in the midst of your busy day? Has someone invited you to attend daily Mass or to join a bible study? Have you suddenly found yourself aware of the needs of others and overcome with a desire to minister to them? These are just a few examples of the times and ways in which God places His thoughts upon our hearts and minds and in our souls.

How can we make sure we can hear Him? We should begin by improving our prayer life—and by making a good confession after a thorough examination of conscience. We might also commit ourselves to attending at Holy Mass more frequently. And learn more about your faith, join a catechism class or bible study at your parish. Also, if yours or a nearby parish offers  Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament—what a great way to spend an hour with the Lord and be present to His Presence.

He invites each of us  to “come and see”. To those who truly seek Him, He says, “Come and see.” Let us go and stay with Him.
